MPlayer support NSV streams, but not NSV files that you might download from winamp.com...  The stream-capture program is unnecessary, as MPlayer/mencoder can do that, or just encode to AVI directly...  

I've had no problems when I tried an example like this:

mencoder 'http://216.240.158.122:10010/;stream.nsv' -oac copy -ovc copy -o test.avi -endpos 2:00
