It works as part of my capture to huffyuv; is there any significant 
impact if I do the resampling at the point of capture, instead of as I 
re-encode?

Also, as a related possible bug, including "ASPECT=4/3" in my lavcopts 
seems to cause mencoder to ignore all subsequent non-lavcopt filters...
