You may very well be correct; however, there's no FAQ that I can find 
either on www.mplayerhq.hu or via a google search for "mencoder faq".  
The documentation also doesn't make it clear that -fps is merely for the 
source material.

Any question that I've put to this mailing list has been exhaustively 
researched through google, the mailing list search functions, and 
usenet, and I'm sorry if my questions have been a bit too basic.
