[MEncoder-users] creating movies from jpegs

i keep going back and forth with this.  Now i am just donig.

mencoder mf://*.jpg -mf type=jpg -ovc lavc -nosound -o corrppmovie.avi

The docs said that if you didn't specify a codec it did mpeg4, and the 
quality is great now.  However, i cannot get it to play in quicktime version 
6.4, is says no moov atom could be found.  It does play in windows media 
player though.   I must be able to play it in quicktime 6.4, because that is 
the last version of quicktime that came with quicktime for java, and i am 
working on a programming project where i must use quicktime for java.
