[MEncoder-users] Performance issue

Im trying to encode a video source from a Winfast 2000 deluxe card using the
examples in the documentation but all of them seem to be too much for my CPU
and mencoder starts dropping frames. I checked that when I start mencoder,
the CPU usage goes almost to 100%.
Can anyone give me a hint on how to be able to do this? I'm not too fussed
about quality, VCD style would be good enough.
This is my setup:
Pentium III 650mhz
256mb RAM (not running X, so swapping is not the problem)
Redhat 9.
Kernel 2.4.20 (recompiled).
Using gbuffers=32 in the bttv driver.
Sblaster Live!
Nvidia GeForce4 MX 440 AGP.
MPlayer 1.0pre5

Thanks
Christian
