[Libav-user] GPL License Question

Hello. I have a question regarding the GPL license of FFMPEG. I have an
open source project which uses FFMPEG for encoding videos from the program.
If I wanted to use the better x264 codec, my project would be GPL, which is
fine in the sense that my code will still be open source. But if I wanted
to post my program on Steam (it is a physics simulator), then I couldn't
because GPL is not compatible with Steamworks. So my question is, will it
truly not be possible at all to publish my program on steam (while the
source code is still publicly available) if I want the x264 codec? I only
want to use it for exporting videos directly from the program with
different quality settings. Also, will I be able to publish it on steam if
I only use the LGPL part of FFMPEG?
