[Libav-user] Question regarding GNU General Public License (GPL)

To whom it may concern,
 
I am writing a white paper on forensic video analysis and the software solutions many analyst throughout the world rely on for their examinations. 
 
In the white paper, I discussed open source solutions as well as commercially available software (sold to consumers) who incorporate FFMpeg open source solutions such as the ffmepg libraries into their commercial paid for software. Three such companies are;
 
    * Axon; they sell a software program called "Axon Investigate"... formerly owned by Occam Solutions and sold as "Input Ace"
    * DVR Examiner now owned by Magnet Forensics and,
    * Amped (sold internationally out of Italy)
Given all three of these companies generate millions in sales each year, do they pay or have to pay any fees or royalties?
 
I would welcome any insight.
