Not really - what is "-" used for? I don't recall seeing that in the man page
(maybe I missed it).

sed (along with awk) is something that I've always been meaning to learn but
never really needed to use in any sort of serious way (I usually copy other
people's examples/recipes if I need to use it).
Thanks for the advice though. Like I said in my original post, I really didn't
have any idea of the wider implications - it just seemed like a simple
solution. I figured there was probably a reason for it though. So, I've
learned something. At least that is worthwhile.
