I did not see any comments to my patches, so I assumed there is no interest
in them, and I did not commit anything. The goal of my patches was to show
how to reduce code duplication, in order to be able to remove the IPv4-only
code more gradually. If people do not agree that this is the way to go,
there is no point in committing my patches.

I wrote those patches in the hope that they could be helpful. If they are
not, I'll just be quiet and silent leaving to someone else the task of
reviewing IPv6 patches.

I cannot speak for everyone, but yes, I believe that using getaddrinfo()
is the right solution (my only point was that we should switch to a
getaddrinfo-only solution gradually, with small changes, and without
rewriting big parts of code from scratch).
