There is nothing illegal here, I think nobody would ever just remove
such a line without at least trying very hard to get the authors
permission.
Also for all I know those "Copyright..." lines are little more than a
historic leftover without much meaning nowadays.
But so far I can't remember a case where this was a issue in the end. If
it ever happens to be it will be treated the same as any other change
that some of use consider ugly: It will be discussed, possibly modified
and either applied or not (please notice that unless I misread it,
neither I nor Michael said we would not accept adding such a notice, we
just voiced our concerns - though mine might have sounded a bit strong,
but pure data tables are one case where I would actually strongly oppose
such a notice, claiming copyright on "trivial" (with respect to creativity)
things is not something we should foster).
