IMO if somebody contributes some not very trivial lines, and he explicitly 
wants his copyright to that part recognized, he should not be prevented to do 
so - that sounds fishy to me, in an illegal way. Although this compromise 
suggested is fine, imho putting the notice at the beginning of the file is a 
little better, because the copyright holders can be seen more easily; and it 
shouldn't pose a problem until it is not requested by a thousand people 
(which up to now has not been) - even than, if the names are written in one 
line after each other, separated by a coma, it shouldn't be such a big deal. 
Anyway, this is my opinion, I wonder how it is done by other projects.
