OK, I will try to move the changes from Makefiles to configure (any hints
on how to would be appreciated).
Just let me know if the patches proposed to the other files are acceptable.

I believe you refer to the installation portion, I am afraid it needs to
be intrusive, Cygwin DLLs go together with EXEs (the Windows way), while
export libraries go to /lib (the Unix way).
