I admit that my CSV idea is inherently sub-optimal in that this type of
data is invariably better suited for a relational database that a
spreadsheet. So the data in the CSV file is likely to look like a
monolithic, highly non-normalized database table.

But, like I said-- lazy, pragmatic solution.
