Diego, I think you are confusing Michael with yourself.

Michael,
this is what happens when you let some people enforce their own rules.
Because contributors and commiters have been harassed to follow the
exact K&R style, and because you have not objected or stopped it, now
you are expected to do the same, even if officially it is not the
rule.

It is just how human societies work. You may not be criminal for
breaking the law, but you'd be seen as immoral for doing what
everybody else want but are not allowed/let to do.
