You might investigate the MPLAYER_VERBOSE environment variable, as
mentioned in the man page under the -msglevel option.

I'm not entirely sure that that environment variable was supported (at
least to the necessary degree) in the version you are running, but it is
the only way - short of redirecting all output to /dev/null - to prevent
MPlayer from printing anything at all.
