OK, re-installed to lirc-0.8.1 srpm (inc lirc-lib + lirc-lib-devel)  
using Yum, and it still won't compile. Same error, and not picking it  
up on autodetect.

I'm still thinking this has to do with the linux input layer side of  
Lirc. Any pointers?
