maybe... I use only lavc, so I cannot say much about Xvid
versions and speed

or try to find a video file which makes few per cent CPU load,
(that won't be easy with such CPUs :D ) and compare
your and your friend's CPU load. but anyway, mplayer shouldn't produce so
much difference (2x fps), I bet on the codec...
