Why would 1.64MB/sec be too slow when you only get 1.76MB/sec too ?

Buffer-cache reads have _nothing_ to do with the actual drive but with your 
overall system performance (Speed of RAM etc.). So this also depends on what 
load you currently have. In that case I agree that if his system load was 
zero 60MB/sec is quite slow :)
