He means using both at once. And this was always possible with
-audio-demuxer option anyway. It's nothing new; I used it quite often
for muxing external ac3 files.

BTW lavf can now read .ac3 files without needing rawaudio, but it
seems to be broken with regard to pts and creates invalid avi files if
used to mux ac3 into avi.
