  I have developed a patch and posted it with the subject
 
[PATCH] Support newer GIFLIB versions

Could you give it a try?

  It should solve your problem and also work with newer GIFLIB versions.
Actually I didn't yet test with your version, so please pardon me if it
doesn't work.
