Sorry, what exactly is "asm-only" here? Which instruction set? I'll have
to do some comparisons with current ffmpeg, possibly looking for places
to improve mpg123. But a year ago, ffmpeg was clearly slower for x86-64
SSE code (slower than mpg123, not really speaking of mp3lib anymore).

Anyhow, our various bits of memory are irrelevant: We current numbers.
And a new thread for them, perhaps, as this is not really about mp3lib
anymore.

PS: And regarding performance of C-only, I really recommend reading a
bit in my "article"... about the presence of a function call that is
never called triggering more efficient code generation from gcc...
I'm luckly to have come to some conclusion with mp3lib ... well,
hopefully it won't take another year with ffmp3float.
