Sorry, but your legal paranoia is - once again - completely baseless.

What DeCSS got Jon was

- DVD playback on his Linux box,
- a sense of personal accomplishment,
- worldwide fame,
- invitations for public speaking,
- an excellent salary in his dream profession: reverse engineering,

and last but not least

- getting sued and seeing his enemies (and the enemies of freedom) have
  their asses whipped in court.

All of this was before Linux was a billion dollar business and free legal
support from good lawyers was available for free to free software devs.

Please don't continue spreading your baseless fears.  Some people are
less well informed and might actually believe they are for real...
