This is great!  Thank you!

I think the "set through experimentation" tweakable np_window should be
lower, or perhaps adjustment-dependent.  On human speech, at -af
scalepitch=.5 -speed 2, np_window sounds good at 40 and better at 30,
and at -af scalepitch=.33333333 -speed 3, np_window sounds good at 30
and better at 24, the lowest I can set it before also needing to change
np_overlap.  Lowering np_overlap didn't seem to improve audio quality,
even to make room for lower np_window values.  I did not try adjusting
np_seek.

I also did not observe the desired behavior with this invocation and
fell back to the scalepitch method as indicated above.  I used the Jun
13 patch with the mplayer source my distro was using by default, an
"mplayer-20070622.tar.bz2".
