Maybe softskip in the filter chain would make it work for damaged files

But anyway, this "-ofps for mplayer -vo yuv4mpeg"  feature could be 
useful if one wants to encode problematic files without using the 
problematic bitrotting mencoder... Though the docuementation, I 
wouldn't have quite understood from reading it that this is "-ofps for 
mplayer"..
