It seems to be customary nowadays among the big players of GUI (you
know, KDE, Gnome, ...) to consider starting an app in a terminal
instead of the K/Foot/Start/...Menu as a wish for extensive debugging
info. I find it annoying, yes.

I also am mildly annoyed by

konqueror(22713): unaligned trap at 000002000172643c: 0000020001a4140f
23 10

totally filling my dmesg... but that's not nonsensical, it's a memory
alignment bug that should be fixed in KDE code for alpha architecture
and what I'm too busy to investigate right now;-)

The interesting thing is indeed that although you have these CRITICAL
errors all around, the apps seem to run normal (for some definition of
normal). Somehow it's hard to believe that there should be no central
mechanism (env var, toolkit config files) to silence that stuff
(someone has a hint?)... or there's the hard route of fixing all these
assertion bugs.
