Interesting feature, it works for me. Are there any objections to 
add it to configure's miscellaneous options list (disabled by 
default)? But I'm not sure that miscellaneous is appropriate 
place. Patch attached.

Also it seems that mplayer compiled in this way doesn't restore 
original terminal settings. It should be fixed somedays...
