So, umm, you get a HUGE audio-video desync in just a few seconds? And all 
the audio is of low bass because of pitch distortion?..
I've never seen such a video. Am I understanding you correctly?

If I'm right, this sounds like a horribly broken video. You could try:

mencoder -speed 2 -noskip -ofps 25

(or whatever the original fps was.)


Either way, I don't really like your patch as it is, but it could be 
somewhat useful with files with a small gradual a/v desync..
