mmh, all right, this when you start mplayer, i know :-)

but when it's playing, as D Richard F III said, i/you can see if framedrop it's on or off (num. of frames), but not if it's hard or not, so writing to the text output, i meant, could be useful, no to consume video bandwidth. but if OSD will be showing only with framedrop off, to me seems that you achieve both things: info & not slowing.
