libvo2 suggestions:
I guess you never start libvo2 if you want fully rewrite or import code.
I suggest you expand existing libvo stuff by adding new fields into
which should be filled to NULL by default.
(It requires only unsignificand modification of existsing stuff but not
whole remake it).
IMHO - it's realistic way.
