I've experienced this only with liba52 and AC3 at first. Later mplayer 
releases've added mp3lib as well. And AFAIK later almost 
anything...except DTS (works fine). I could not locate the problem. The 
"solution" was switching back to gcc 4.2.1 (in my case) from gcc 4.3.0. 
The other custom libs (e.g. pthreads, fontconfig..) works ok (built with 
gcc 4.3.0).
