To be honest, after a little poking, that's pretty much what I thought.
I've attached the configure.log, but this is the specific section that
seems to be b0rking...

cc /tmp/mplayer-conf-2297-820.c -o /tmp/mplayer-conf-27523-820.o -c
-O4 -march=pentium4 -mtune=pentium4 -pipe -ffast-math
-fomit-frame-pointer -D_GNU_SOURCE -I/usr/src/mplayer/libfaad2
In file included from /tmp/mplayer-conf-2297-820.c:42:
/usr/src/mplayer/libfaad2/common.h:225: error: conflicting types for
'int8_t'
/usr/include/stdint.h:18: error: previous declaration of 'int8_t' was here
In file included from /usr/src/mplayer/libfaad2/common.h:361,
                  from /tmp/mplayer-conf-2297-820.c:42:
/usr/include/math.h:227: error: conflicting types for 'lrintf'
/usr/src/mplayer/libfaad2/common.h:328: error: previous definition of
'lrintf' was here

ldd /tmp/mplayer-conf-27523-820.o
mplayer-conf-27523-820.o	-> /tmp/mplayer-conf-27523-820.o

Result is: no (broken gcc)

In actual fact, it seems to be conflicting headers, perhaps.. But it is
saying my gcc is broken.. I think I'll install the gcc4 packages and see
what that returns..

Chris

Spinning complacently in the darkness, covered and blinded by a blanket
of little lives, false security has lulled the madness of this world
into a slumber. Wake up! An eye is upon you, staring straight down and
keenly through, seeing all that you are and everything that you will
never be. Yes, an eye is upon you, an eye ready to blink. So face
forward, with arms wide open and mind reeling. Your future has
arrived... Are you ready to go?
