could you try -vc rv40win on linuxbox and see if it crashes?

if i am reading this correctly, the codec is crashing, not mencoder ;p
workaround would be to find an updated rv40 codec that does not crash on your
sample. is the realplayer10 real40 codec newer? is it still drv43260.dll?
maybe you could replace the one mplayer is using with this one and see if it still
crashes...

otherwise... whats the md5sum on your codec?
711dbc8f0a5d89a2c946c33f2d717c75 *c:\\programs\\mplayer\\drv43260.dll
is mine

i get no crash with my cygwin compiled mplayer.
MPlayer dev-CVS-051030-20:21-3.3.1 , mplayer test.rmvb -nosound

plays to the end.

let me get this straight, you are reencoding a reencoded rm to dvd?
some source> original avi> animehq rm> dvd mpeg2? ehhe you crazy.

anyways, using the command line you provided...

I:\johnbrown105_bugreport>mencoder test.rmvb -of mpeg -mpegopts
format=dvd:telecine -vf scale=704:480,harddup -oac lavc -aid 0 -ovc lavc

vrc_buf_size=1835:keyint=18:vrc_maxrate=1536
-ofps 24000/1001 -srate 48000 -af lavcresample=48000 -o test.mpg

so mencoder works here too using your cmd.

anyways, its most probably your codec dll, if not, maybe we can figure it out.
