[Mplayer-advusers] "noisy/distorted" sound with MPlayer(CVS)+mpeg+SuSE9.0

Hi,
Around 2 month ago I upgraded from SuSE 8.2 to SuSE 9.0. When I recompiled
MPlayer, I noticed that when playing mpeg-Files, the sound has some high
frequency noise and is somehow distorted, like "bubbling". It is not
completely distorted, so you can understand the voices but the sound is
somehow disturbed.
I downloaded the current CVS-Version of MPlayer/ffmpeg several times plus the
recent codec packs and hoped that the problem would go away, but it did not.
Moreover a friend of mine also installed SuSE9 and has the same problems like
me with somewhat different hardware, so it seems that it's a SuSE-specific
problem. Anyway, I can't figure out what changed so much from SusE 8.2 to
SuSE9: GCC changed from 3.3 to 3.3.1 but the alsa version (which I suspected
first) remained "0.9.6".
I then suspected my sound card (Terratec Aureon sky) but when I switched to
the onboard AC97 audio, the problem remained.
The problem seems to be limited to MPEGs. Some are better, some are worse, it
also occurs with SVCDs.
I am quite clueless what to check, I tried some mplayer options but with no
success.
Does someone know a solution to my problem?
