[MPlayer-advusers] known bug? mplayer ignores input waiting for data?

Koth said this was a known bug where mplayer will not accept
keyboard input when its waiting for data, as it parses keys on every
frame played. he says its not fixable without messing with a/v sync
and lots of code.

is this a known bug? has this been talked about before? is there a 
timeout for mplayer waiting for data? e.g. after a minute mplayer
will stop waiting and exit? can this be included? e.g. -timeout 30
