Thanks a lot for pursuing !!

I was using the version that comes with Ubuntu 11.10 all the time
   MPlayer SVN-r33713-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2011 MPlayer Team

Yesterday, I had downloaded the most recent version from the mplayer web
site to a different path on my box
   MPlayer SVN-r34509-4.6.1 (C) 2000-2012 MPlayer Team

Unfortunately, there is no difference in behaviour. I don't have this
problems with all the files on my disk ... and sometimes, I can overcome
it by slight modifications of the EDL. But in the end, that is no real
solution.

Malte
