Stream copy is not gonna work. I would try the following.
I don't use virtualdub, but avidemux instead. load your video. choose xvid4,
and then as the encoding type you can choose 'same qz as input'. Use single
pass. Now, don't tick any checkbox like 'gmc' (global motion compensation).
Other stuff like qpel and b-frames are probably okay, but you may need to
turn them off too. To test you can just cut out 5 minutes of video with
avidemux.
