I also thought that the vmax_b_frames defaults to zero. I didn't modify my
version of the .conf file, but it seemed to make a difference for one file.
Not sure why.

The pages in the Mencoder documentation on creating quicktime files specify
the use of mp4creator, an external program. I couldn't compile mp4creator on
my machine as it died with an error. I have only just now managed to compile
it, by commenting out an offending line in one of the source files. I'll
give it a go, but don't know the full consequences, if any, of not having
that line.

Otherwise, it looks like I will be using Adobe Premiere. Not my best option
as I have limited access to it.
