The video footage was taken in a profile orientation
(opposed to the normal landscape) and requires that it
be rotated 90 degrees clockwise when transcoded.  This
provides the proper margins when scaled back to
640:480.

If you know of a better way to do this, I would be
interested in hearing how you did it.

I also noticed with the rc1 version of mencoder and
the latest codecs, that any quick, bright lights shown
in the transcoded footage exhibits an extending, white
horizontal line from the lighted object.  Any ideas
why this happens and any filters that might fix it?
