[MEncoder-users] A/V out of sync - but only on an Archos player

I've got an Archos Gmini 400 which I'm quite happy with. I've also usually
quite happy with mencoder/mplayer, but whatever options I try I can't get
proper A/V-sync when encoding with mencoder. Audio leads about 0.5 sec for
the entire movie.

Now, mplayer plays the same file fine, so this is probably an Archos
deficiency. On the other hand, a file encoded with transcode with as
equivalent options as I can make them, plays fine both on the Archos and with
mplayer.

I'm guessing there must be subtle difference in the headers, but I'm not
sufficiently knowledgeable of .avi-files or encoders to track it down myself.
Can you direct me to the proper tools and procedures?

Best regards,

/Lennart

PS:

Sample options used for mencoder, version 1.0pre5:
-oac lavc -ovc lavc -lavcopts acodec=mp3:vcodec=mpeg4:abitrate=128

Sample options used for transcode, version 0.6.14:
-y ffmpeg -F mpeg4 -b 128
