In general yes, in real - it depends
(as you see in ffmpeg, and many other programs)

And do you remember what I wrote?
"do not use .mpg without codec tweaking"

m2ts is a newer version of m2t. m2t is just obsolete.
(in tv industry .ts is newer and better version of m2ts, for fun)
