  Not sure. We didn't yet here anything from Andrey again.

  You want this functionality in soon/now? Or anyone else thinks this
would be useful?

  I personally did freeze this one, as no one seems to need it and I
don't want to add complex just-in-case functionality.

  Nicolas if you want to take this further, I remember you did throw
up some good points about corner cases in your first reply which I
complemented with a few more points.

  We should refine the purpose of the function so we can think more
clearly about the interface/behaviour of the implementation. Then,
whichever, patch is best suited should be changed to reflect the
outcome of the discussion.

  Also there was a comment from Stefano, that we could probably
re-use existing code already in FFmpeg. So that should be checked
for feasibility too.
