Hello, I have it working! I am receiving different sized char*. These are written to a file in the rtmpdump code. How does this work? Can i get individual frames from this data? Regards. Daniel

Using rtmpdump for passive monitoring of Live RTMP stream

I'm working as a consultant to a large live streaming media provider. My project involves monitoring encoder image quality. I am trying to figure how to monitor a non-encrypted Live RTMP stream that I am pushing to a CDN. I would like to avoid putting a RTMP proxy between my encoder and the CDN, since a proxy becomes a potential failure point. I can easily configure my switches with a monitor port, so I can passively sniff the TCP stream. But I need to convert the sniffed TCP stream into something that I can open in a player. I was wondering if it is feasile to use librtmp (obviously with a bit of hacking) for this? Can it made to understand a RTMP stream even if it has not been negotiating the connection itself? If so, can it be made to offer a new stream to VLC for example? Any idea how much work it would be to achieve this for a reasonably skilled developer? /jesper

Hello, I am seeking help with libRTMP. Rtmpdump works with crtmpserver using the param -r "rtmp://127.0.0.1:1935/flvplayback/bunny.flv" However, when i do this in code i cannot get it to connect. Using the rtmpdump source code, i am unable to run this due to getopt_long which belongs to getopt.h, a linux header. Which params will be set to default values? For instance, tcURL is set independently of the RTMP_ParseURL(). I have tried various combinations and default values, but the stream will not play when connected. We know it can work with rtmpdump which leads me to think it is the params. This is my best effort so far, it connects to the stream. It reads a small number of bytes. The next step will be writing, is it as simple as enable write and basically do the same thing? Regards. Daniel
