I tried several old mplayers in the meantime, i can tell you as much that the CVS from feb 13th DOES work, i'll be on a short vacation, but when i get back i'll try to find the exact version on which it breaks.

ok, i just spend compiling various versions of mplayer, all with the same configure options ( ./configure --disable-mencoder --enable-linux-devfs --enable-gui --disable-tv --disable-tv-v41 --enable-3dfx --enable-tdfxfb --disable-alsa --disable-sunaudio --disable-mad --enable-aa --enable-mmx --enable-mmx2 --enable-sse --disable-runtime-cpudetection) and CVS version prior to 16th of march everything works, 16th you guys changed something in the GUI that makes it where it refueses to run on my system. any idea's on how to find this bugger? oliver
