libmp3lame problems.

      hi,

I'm trying to compile mplayer but the configure script
cannot find the libmp3lame library. 

I have installed lame and it placed the files in
/usr/local/lib/. 
Here is a listing:
libmp3lame.a         libmp3lame.so@      
libmp3lame.so.0.0.0*
libmp3lame.la*       libmp3lame.so.0@
