Hi! I want my mplayer to use -vo vesa on my old ATI Rage Pro, to be able to use the TVout of this card. It once worked great, but now I reinstalled Linux on this box (Gentoo) and it just doesn't work anymore. It allway says: VO: Comment: Requires ROOT privileges. But I am root! Although -vo fbdev works, but too slow. So what can I do to get it to work? Thx Marius
What about adding marius to the group that has to do with display??? cat /etc/group | grep video tells me: video:x:44: what about changing this line to: video:x:44:marius or maybe even something like: video:x:44:marius,marius_friend_who_is_allowed_to_watch_marius_movies,ab raham_lincoln,george_washington, etc ggt On lørdag, feb 8, 2003, at 18:40 Europe/Oslo, Marius Schäfer wrote:

cat /etc/group | grep video
tells me:
video:x:44:
what about changing this line to:
video:x:44:marius No, this doesn't seem to help, my line looks like this:
video::27:root btw, i'm not using the user marius or whatever, i'm logged in as root! maybe this is a prob related to devfs or a newer kernel, found some people having the same prob with redhat 8.0 while it worked with 7.3. thx anyway
Please stop the idea of being root try to add your ordinary account to that list. ggt On lørdag, feb 8, 2003, at 19:50 Europe/Oslo, Marius Schäfer wrote:

Or if it's stuck on _root_, perhaps add the user marius to root's group. ggt On lørdag, feb 8, 2003, at 18:40 Europe/Oslo, Marius Schäfer wrote:
