I've extracted the subtitles from a VOB file into vobsub format ('movie.sub' and 'movie.idx'), then with the following mplayer -vobsub movie -vobsubid 2 movie.mpeg they display as expected. I've encoded the above 'movie.mpeg' file into 'movie.720x300.xvid.avi' but then with the following command mplayer -vobsub movie -vobsubid 2 movie.720x300.xvid.avi the subtitles will not appear. Since I've suppressed the black borders, I thought the subtitles might be hidden and I tried the following option -vop expand=750:600 -subpos 90 but to no avail. What's wrong with my expectations? As a subsidiary question, how can I transform vobsub subtitles into mpsub format? Thanks for your help.
