mencoder MJPEGS won't play in WMP
Hi all, Sorry if this is a FAQ, or something obvious I've missed - I've looked for the answer on the web. I have some MJPEG video, PCM audio AVI files that came from my digital camera (a Canon Powershot A40) and I wish to rotate them, so people can view them without turning their head through 90 degrees. I did this: mencoder -vop rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg -oac copy source.avi -o dest.avi MPlayer can play the rotated files, but Windows Media Player cannot - there is only sound without video. WMP can play the orginal files from my digicam fine. Anyone know why, or how to fix it? Thanks G -- Navigare necesse est -- Gnaeus Pompeius

[Automatic answer: RTFM (read DOCS, FAQ), also read DOCS/bugreports.html] Hi all,
Sorry if this is a FAQ, or something obvious I've missed - I've looked for the answer on the web.
I have some MJPEG video, PCM audio AVI files that came from my digital camera (a Canon Powershot A40) and I wish to rotate them, so people can view them without turning their head through 90 degrees.
I did this:
mencoder -vop rotate=1 -ovc lavc -lavcopts vcodec=mjpeg -oac copy source.avi -o dest.avi
MPlayer can play the rotated files, but Windows Media Player cannot - there is only sound without video. WMP can play the orginal files from my digicam fine. Anyone know why, or how to fix it?
Thanks G Try to install ffvfw (for windoze).
P.S. By novirus warning I head to resent that message. By mistake I sent some old template. Sorry. Whats going on that noviurus - I subscribe two other lists and I do not receive my letters back. -- Wieslaw Kierbedz gg 2128870; wieslaw_kierbedz@jabber.org www.v4l.prv.pl (video4linux - podstawy)

It would be better if no extra codecs were needed. If I need an extra codec then DivX would be preferred. Thank you for the suggestion. Why does Windows Media Player need extra codecs to play these MJPEGs? It can play other MJPEGs, but not those created with mencoder. Is there more than one MJPEG standard? Maybe it's an issue with libavcodec - is there a list for libavcodec problems? For reference, I fixed this by using ffmpeg from: http://ffmpeg.sourceforge.net/ ffmpeg -i dest.avi -sameq -acodec pcm_u8 -vcodec mjpeg dest2.avi I think there is something wrong with the MJPEGs produced by mencoder. G -- Navigare necesse est -- Gnaeus Pompeius
