I am trying to make a mpeg file from tga files using mencoder. In order to do that I installed MPlayer and mencoder on my Linux. MPlayer works OK but I couldn't make mencoder functioning only to get following messages: -------------------------------------------------------------------- This is the command I used: mencoder *.tga -mf on:type=tga -of mpeg -ovc rawrgb -o out.mpeg -------------------------------------------------------------------- These are the messages I got: MEncoder 0.91-RPM-3.1 (C) 2000-2003 MPlayer Team CPU: Intel Celeron A Mendocino/Pentium II Dixon (Family: 6, Stepping: 5) Detected cache-line size is 32 bytes CPUflags: Type: 6 MMX: 1 MMX2: 0 3DNow: 0 3DNow2: 0 SSE: 0 SSE2: 0 Reading /home/sjwoo/.mplayer/codecs.conf: can't open '/home/sjwoo/.mplayer/codecs.conf': No such file or directory Reading /etc/mplayer/codecs.conf: 50 audio & 136 video codecs File not found: 'frameno.avi' <<<=== WHAT DOES THIS MEAN?????? As long as you're not doing pass three of the three-pass encoding method, there's no need to worry.
Reading config file /home/sjwoo/.mplayer/mencoder: No such file or directory success: format: 0 data: 0x0 - 0x41EC2 ============ Sorry, this file format is not recognized/supported ============= === If this file is an AVI, ASF or MPEG stream, please contact the author! === Cannot open demuxer. There's no support for encoding from tga images. Use gif, png or jpeg. -- MPlayer RPMs maintainer: http://www.piorunek.pl/~dominik/linux/pkgs/mplayer/ "The Universe doesn't give you any points for doing things that are easy." -- Sheridan to Garibaldi in Babylon 5:"The Geometry of Shadows"
I myself found the mistake I made. Mencoder did work with 'tga' file. For input I had to use \*.tga instead of *.tga. But I still can't figure out how I have to name those tga files to make them properly ordered. I named it shot0.tga, shot1.tga, ... , shot9.tga, shot10.tga, shot11.tga, ... , which only gave me WRONG ordering.. Thanks, Sungjong Woo

Have you tried shot00.tga, shot01.tga, shot02.tga, and so forth - or, if you have > 100 images, shot000.tga, shot001.tga, et cetera?
