Has anyone had success viewing DVD movies with a USB DVD device?
How does the DVD device appear to the system? If it's /dev/xyz then it should be pretty straightforward to play it.
I don't have a USB DVD drive, but my DV camera has a USB connection for the MemoryStick, and that uses the standard usb-storage module so it appears to the system as a SCSI drive - so I mount /dev/sda1 to access it, or I imagine, if it was a DVD I'd use /dev/sda1 as the DVD device.
Cheers, Adam.
/dev/scd0 I've actually used this drive for reading iso9660 fs, burning CDs and DVDs, but haven't been able to play DVDs. mplayer either hangs at reading the VTS_01_0.IFO file or succeeds there and then quickly hangs. I get the following kernel message in /var/log/messages: Oct 9 05:49:36 AMDKing kernel: I/O error: dev 0b:01, sector 26144 Oct 9 05:49:53 AMDKing kernel: I/O error: dev 0b:01, sector 26144 Thus, I was wondering if this is a usb-kernel ioctls issue since I assume mplayer (and other css decrypting software) needs io calls which may or may not be implemented so far in the USB code. Hence the question, anyone successful at DVD playback over a USB device? -jackp
