I am trying to play mplayer (dev-SVN-r20781-4.1.1) through a usb headset under Linux Fedora Core 6. I invoke it with mplayer -ao alsa:device=hw=1 myfile.mp3 and the audio comes through ok, but i) I cannot control the volume ( using / and * I get the feedback message that the volume has changed but the actual level is unaffected) ii) If I try invoking it with gmplayer I don't get any sound at all!
